The city of New Brunswick, population 48,573 is the county seat of Middlesex County. It is southwest of Newark, between Edison and North Brunswick, along Highway 27 and the Amtrak and New Jersey Transit, on the banks of the Raritan River. Nearby are Highland Park and Piscataway. New Brunswick is part of the Middlesex-Somerset-Hunterdon, New Jersey metro area and is home to Rutgers University New Brunswick Campus. Renter occupied housing is 69% of total housing.
